Baseball Finishes Regular Season At Houston

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati baseball team finishes out the regular season at Houston with a Thursday-Saturday, three-game, American Athletic Conference series at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. Games on Thursday and Friday will start at 7:30 p.m. ET and Saturday's series finale goes at 2 p.m. UC has won five of its last eight games and is coming off a 7-1 midweek loss at crosstown rival Xavier on Tuesday.

Thursday's series opener will be the 43rd all-time meeting between the two teams, dating back to 1958. Houston leads 34-8 and 15-4 in Houston. The two teams last met on May 24, 2016, in the first game of the American Championship, a 9-1 UH win.

// NOTES OF NOTE
· Outfielder R.J. Thompson earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference honor roll for the second-straight week after hitting .444 in five games. He finished 8-for-18 with a home run, two doubles, six runs driven up, four runs scored and four walks. In UC's 8-5 senior day win over UCF last Sunday, Thompson finished 3-for-4 with three runs driven in and a run scored. On the season, he leads UC with a .332 batting average with four home runs, 67 hits, 13 doubles, 26 RBIs, 27 walks and 31 runs scored.
· Ryan Noda's 11 home runs, 31 walks lead the squad along with the 11 times he's been hit by a pitch. One of those home runs came against Western Carolina and ended up on the roof of Fifth Third Arena. He's only the second player at UC to achieve that feat (Lance Durham).
· A.J. Bumpass has put together a strong sophomore campaign, hitting .273 with 53 hits, a team-high 14 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 33 runs driven in along with 53 runs scored, 33 walks and five stolen bases.
· Three freshmen dot the starting lineup with Jace Mercer, Eric Santiago and Luke Turino all seeing significant time in 2017. Freshman hurler Nathan Kroger has posted a 3-0 record and 2.91 ERA in 13 appearances, including three starts.
· Pitcher David Orndorff has a done a little bit of everything this year, starting, relieving and closing. He's 4-4 on the year in 19 appearances and seven starts with 3.12 ERA in 57.2 innings pitched with seven saves and 38 strikeouts.
